Andrew Bird

Eric is always full of surprises. This one included a night with Andrew Bird. If you don't know him, google him. My two favorite songs are "Fake Palindromes" and "Fitz and Dizzyspells." Unfortunately, the universe also planned for us to get arguably the worst food poisoning of both our lives from Hapa Grill (never ever ever ever eat there!) ribs the night before. Luckily, Pearce did not touch the ribs (he's a borderline vegetarian...chicken nuggets and snake are about all he likes) and was healthy as a horse. Eric and I were so sick we had to call in reinforcements to take Pearce. We were both laying on the floors of two separate bathrooms for about 12 hours. Thank you Kochs. Without you, we might still be lying on our bathroom floor. And thank you Lamberts for taking Pearce later on (once we could stand) so we could actually go to the show. You guys both earned major C-Kingdom points in my book.

Here we are living it up in the VIP section. We had to upgrade to VIP not because we're VIPs, but because it was the only place where there were chairs. Had we stood for three hours, I'm pretty sure one of us wouldn't have made it out alive.

Andrew Bird is a one man show who plays about sixty instruments. He'd play a riff with one, record it on a loop machine, then keep adding instrument after instrument until the entire song developed. Amazing. Too much talent for one human. I'm jealous. But, more so, grateful God gives us people like him. Also grateful to Pipeline Cafe for finally bringing some musicians to Hawaii that we like.
